What is the function of the arginine vasopressin receptor A1?

Vasopressin is a hormone or a chemical messenger that promotes water retention in the kidneys and increase blood pressure. Most of these effects take place when vasopressin is released into the blood stream. Sometimes vasopressin can be released directly into the brain and this is vasopressin influences social and sexual behavior like infidelity.

The arginine vasopressin receptor A1 binds vasopressin and transmits the signal into the cells. Genetic changes in the vasopressin receptor gene are also linked to musical ability, social interactions between dancers and autism.

Two different versions of the AVPR1A gene are linked to infidelity based on gender.

AVPR1A variations associated with an increased likelihood of infidelity in females are detected in the Female Infidelity Gene AVPR1A Test.

The AVPR1A variation (known as the RS3 334 allele), which is associated with an increased likelihood of infidelity in men is detected in the Male Pair-Bonding Gene AVPR1A Test.
